The best of video is coming soon.
Windows Presentation Foundation is up and running. Many applications are taking the potential of this technology. For those you talked with me certainly hear me about the WPF application that’s control the Zurich airport (Switzerland). This is a real-time XAML that allows to controls ground fields, airplanes, real time weather conditions, etc.
Tim Sneath wore a full article in English at http://blogs.msdn.com/tims/archive/2007/03/27/great-wpf-applications-13-z-rich-airport.aspx
The web demo is available at: http://wpf.netfx3.com/direct/zurich/zeuswpf.xbap

PT:

OK! Today I, João Viegas and Manuel Preliteiro were at Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco for a Windows Vista session.

(from left to right: me, João Viegas, Manuel Preliteiro)
Manuel starts the session with an introduction of windows security layers and explains one by one, and how they work visually for the user.
Me and João showed the cool stuff working J. Speech Recognition , search capabilities, folder organization, new Aero UI, ready boost and much more.

One hour for this wasn’t enough for sure, but the student came to us at the end. Outside the auditorium at entrance they asked many questions about Vista, and we talked about .net framework 3.0 including WPF samples, like New York Times reader and OTTO store. We show Expression Blend, his samples and features.
We finish the session at 15:40 and the outside conversion over around 18:30 :P Witch shows that students have many curiosity for the new technologies included on .net framework. Before we take off they invited us for a new event taking place in May with more time to show and teach .net technology.
For first João and Manuel MSP session they were cool, congratulations!
Yesterday a branch of MSPs were at Universidade da Beira Interior for give a cool sessions. The first photo is João Viegas giving the welcome of the event.

Then Miguel Vicente talk about Windows Vista giving "the what the OS can do for us?" perspective, for the answer "What we can do with OS". César Mendes came up to bring the evolution of Microsoft Office, since 95 up to new brand Office System 2007.
One of my sessions was about Windows Presentation Foundation and XAML, I show some demos, OTTO, New York Times Reader and show Expression Blend layout and out of the box samples.
This is a nice link for some cool WPF app: http://channel9.msdn.com/wiki/default.aspx/WPF.ApplicationPortfolio

After lunch was time to talk around of the new .net Framework 3.0. The differences, the new blocks (WPF, WCF, WWF, Card Space and SpeechFx), and cool demos :)
I love the evangelism paper, showing cool technology that can improve student’s works and projects. The ImagineCup is a point of start for the students came up with great ideas.
Ricardo Portela shows ASP.NET web technology and Nelson Correia finish with ASP.NET AJAX samples and theory.
I want to congratulate the NINF for their organization and great event they give for all UBI students.
Thanks all folks J
Today I arrived at Covilhã for tomorrow give two sessions, one of WPF with XAML and .net Framework. The organization gave us a nice hotel in Serra da Estrela near by the city. This is a great place for resting and prepares the sessions. With a beautiful view and great conditions, check out the photos. Tomorrow I'll post more details.
Thank YOU!! NINF

Night room view

Inside of my room.
Aero it’s definitely a nice and cool feature, even takes our desktop to a new dimensions and takes the new capabilities of our graphics card and Windows Presentation Foundation settings. So the new generation of windows customization is no longer the old way, changing the color schema, or windows bar interface, or adding a docking bar, or even a new windows entrance logo. Today the windows customization getting the new potential of windows aurora and make the difference by that. If don’t believe you can see some samples. Almost two months of Vista launch and there are available some cool stuff to customize the brand new desktop.
You can see some samples like this:

The new .net framework 3.0, integrated on Vista, enables developers and architects to grow for a new dimension of developing applications. Using WPF, WWF, WCF, CardSpace and SpeechFx you can bring your applications to a new UI experience for you users.
This technology is definitely changing the UI experience, today the users of any operating system wants the UI oriented for the tasks and not for the option. If you by a new camera with some many buttons or option and you are with some difficulty to manage your new camera you certainly read the user guide, or the reference guide to get help. Now isn’t more easy having the how can I do guide?? With the answers for: “I had buy this great camera, but how I start to record a simple movie?” Or “How can I get my videos into my PC or TV?” I’m afraid that this is better for us. So I think that Microsoft spent more time to study the user behavior with applications to make them easier and faster for the users.
Let’s take the new brand Office System 2007 with the new ribbon for instance. Didn’t you ask yourself for: “dam! They change everything! Where is that control?! In previous version was so easy…”, I’m afraid so, I asked myself. But with some days of use, all the questions were gone from my head and the problems shows when I use the previous versions… why? Because with new organization of ribbon you get more fast your controls, everything is oriented for your task. Look for your ribbon and verify that.
New menus like Home, Insert, etc, which one with the right operations. Best organizes, everything oriented for the tasks.
But Windows Vista has followed the same theory, and now you can’t ask where is this, or where is that, but ask your self for, where this make sense to be? And if you get the answer I bet that you find everything that you are looking for. Check the new desktop proprieties organization, control panel organizations and so on.
Studies with users are crucial for UI modifications and innovation and there is a iterative process for that like:
1 - Indentify user’s necessities and theirs problems
2 - Making a solution
3 - Make a prototype of the solution
4 - Make real users evaluations
So you start with Indentify user’s necessities and theirs problems, you listen their problems and issues with the actual UI that you have, then you make a solution that you think is better for the initial problems you had reported. After that you make a prototype, like beta versions that allows evaluating the user’s behavior of you new solution. You going making progress and if anything fails, you return to re-design you initial solution and make a new prototype, then new beta versions and new user’s evaluations. That’s stands for a iterative process and drives you for a good solution that allows your users more happy with the new solution.
I think that the new Microsoft products had a similar process because of the bigger evolution that their surfer comparing with the previous ones.

By the feedback provided shows that all sessions were high quality and relevance. Before close this post I want to make some thank you for all speakers, event staff, MVPs, MSP and DPE of Microsoft Portuguese subsidiary.

3 days down, no more to go... :'( . This is the feeling that I left of the conference (CCL), so many sessions, so many speakers, partners, etc. For those who tucked a Tech-ed event can figured out what happened here in Portugal.
For this day, we started with many sessions, ARC, DEV, MGT, UCM, SRV, INT and DATHOL. I started one of the first morning session, "Angústias de um Arquitecto" you can see the picture :)

This session will be available soon for download. (Fully recorded)
Many photos and many videos, today I continue interviewing the speakers and TechDays event staff! One of the videos is with Bernado Antunes (from Devscope), that explains the architecture that they use for processing feedback sessions. BI and a cube with all data to provide many views of feedback results. Best speaker, best session score, best subject, etc. It's a new process used by the event staff to get the results of the sessions as soon as possible. (Check out the video).
We also talked with two Event managers (Joana e Maria) and they tolls us the big challenge to support all stuff during the event days. Providing goodies, CDs, DVDs products, resolving issues, and all that a big event needs. You can see the video.
Luis Falcão, talked about LINQ using C#, and demonstrated the new coolest features that this technology can provide. He had his auditorium full. Another great session was with Jon Harris, he is a Microsoft Evangelist for Expressions products at Microsoft (UK), and he made two great sessions, one with blend and other with Web Expression. He demonstrated the new features of this technology, and applied to practical samples! Check out the interview.
Tiago Pascoal and Bruno Câmara also gave at the final slot of the day, a great session about SCRUM, MSF and XP using Team System. Session full and with very interest from the attendance. Check out the interview.
I asked to José António Silva, if will be a TechDays 2008, you can see his reaction on the video. :)
So, I can't describe how cool and important was this event, and I hope to improve myself with this experiences. I hope that I can do the same and more for the next TechDays.
Note: I'm uploading the videos, so check it out my rss from soap.

So, 2 days down 1 to go! For the last day I’m going make the introduction of one session (ARC007 – Architect issues), I was invited by Tiago Pascoal and I have a little surprise to show there.
About this day, many sessions had so much people that going to be repeated. Some sessions that had some relevance like: ASP.NET Ajax, Hacking more easy in Ajax web sites , Windows Mobile and New APIs for speech recognition. I had entirely recorded ASP.NET AJAX, Hacking more easy in Ajax web sites and New APIs for speech recognition, which will be available for download very soon.
I added to soapbox new videos, Pedro Silva Santos, Mauro Santana, Rui Quintino, Ricardo Figueira and others, so check it out on my soapbox rss.
