Nowadays the robotic science is getting more vision and more users than never. It’s true that new technology and tools are a great start for those who never experienced this subject. The robocup competition and some curricular studies from universities are providing more people interested and the robot community is getting bigger.
This year we have a Portuguese team (CAMBADA, from Aveiro University) winner of the robocup championship middle-size soccer league.
I don’t have much experience in this field, I just used the Microsoft Robotics Studio to experiment some demos and some delivery feature of .net framework on this technology.
Last techdays we had a great session about Portuguese speech recognition and our MLDC team made a great demo using speech recognition and robotics studio, showing how is possible have a voice command robot J.

Pela primeira vez Portugal chega à final na categoria de Software Design!! Num excelente 4º lugar pela equipa (void*) da Universidade de Trás-os-montes e Alto Douro com o seu projecto de smart containers.

Como sabem, está a decorrer esta semana a final mundial do maior concurso de tecnologia para estudantes, o ImagineCup. Este ano sob o tema do ambiente a equipa void* da Universidade de Trás-os-montes e Alto Douro, representa Portugal na final da categoria de Software Design com o seu projecto de smart containers.
Além dos parabéns por terem alcançado a final nacional, esta equipa já se encontra nos Top 12 mundais!! Amanhã correm o risco de estarem presentes na grande final!
Fico muito contente por podermos demonstrar talentos nacionais ao maior nível: o mundial!

We all know that the world needs a new conscience about the environment, we must change our little habits to contribute for a better global house. I think that we need some examples and some initiatives to give us some courage and some inspiration. The great thing is that we have from big companies some cool green initiatives and they really have that conscience about this issues.
Not only on computers technology, for example Mitsubishi have one green initiative on theirs air conditioning called green gateway initiative, and the traditional and well know recycle organizations are keeping and innovating new recycles processes for better and more products.
On the web, we can find some cool pages with interactive applications to help us on our habits and our behavior with environment. http://green.msn.com/ and http://www.carbongrove.com/ are two cool places to visit.
So big technology companies have this subject on schedule, we can visit theirs web pages to see the vision and the strategy from each one.

There are many initiatives, and some challenges like ImagineCup have also adopted this question in theirs terms and applications. On other hand we have the motors companies worried about this and they are investing on hybrid and similar's technologies to contribute for a green environmental and to save some money from our pockets.
Definitely our great individual contribution can be by reducing the power consumption, on laptops we can use energy save plan, on desktops keep them in a lower state of power and when buying new electronic equipment keep in mind the power consumption table. In each house we can change some old lamps to the new ones, I'm remembering now that EDP (Portuguese electric supplier) have a initiative for this, keeping recycle trash and give some vacations to our car.
So let's take the wave and going green.
